[Linux Gaming] Perpetuum Online

A friend of mine asked me a couple days ago if I could have a look on this game "Perpetuum Online"! Why not? It should be the occasion for me to investigate on this game. My tests were done on Ubuntu 12.04 32 bits. My GPU is GTX 680 (hard-moded to GRID K2).
  1. fixme:olepicture:OleLoadPictureEx (0xbe9fbc,334,1,{7bf80980-bf32-101a-8bbb-00aa00300cab},x=0,y=0,f=0,0x32f22c), partially implemented.
    I tried
    winetricks vcrun6sp6
After that I set library oleaut32.dll to native using winecfg. In a nutshell you just have to find the expected DLL on Internet and set add this DLL using winecfg and set it as native
  2. Another prerequisite is to install d3dx9
    winetricks d3dx9
As it is written on winehq.org for this application installing d3dx9_36 should be enough -- instead of d3dx9 --. But since I begun all my tests with d3dx9 I decided to go this way
  3. There is a graphical issue
This issue didn't occur for Wine version from 1.3.16 to 1.3.32.
So I think that the expected fix is between wine 1.3.32 and wine 1.3.33.

I am still working on this issue. Updates/Commits from 1.3.32 to 1.3.33 are listed using this URL: http://source.winehq.org/git/wine.git/shortlog/refs/tags/wine-1.3.33

Over 1.3.32 the guilty is this commit http://source.winehq.org/git/wine.git/patch/56c9952ee66dc5a7ec5281d874d8f9abe486c418
    • From 1.3.16 to 1.3.32: No patch required!
    • From 1.3.33 to 1.5.9: You have to reverse this patch
      cd wine-1.X.YZ
      wget "http://source.winehq.org/git/wine.git/patch/56c9952ee66dc5a7ec5281d874d8f9abe486c418" -O - | patch -p1 -R
    • For 1.5.10 use the following update
      cd wine-1.X.YZ
      wget "http://source.winehq.org/git/wine.git/patch/56c9952ee66dc5a7ec5281d874d8f9abe486c418" -O - |  sed -e "s:gl:gl_info->gl_ops.gl.p_gl:g" |patch -p1 -R
    • For wine 1.5.11
       wget "http://source.winehq.org/git/wine.git/patch/a488e574497d674631b4036d4b179ce349ddb764" -O - | patch -p1 -R
       wget "http://source.winehq.org/git/wine.git/patch/902049c054f6b4d59287efb209604459227e6c3b" -O - | patch -p1 -R
       wget "http://source.winehq.org/git/wine.git/patch/0a37a86f356e84b14187165a5cf67042ae8a7d6b" -O - | patch -p1 -R
       wget "http://source.winehq.org/git/wine.git/patch/152a09ce75b97b1139e358428cea2c371a8b6804" -O - | patch -p1 -R

Exam...Film à voir

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q2RpdKos2kw

Games tested last week

First of all my own settings
  • Linux Distrib: Ubuntu 12.04 32 Bits
  • Linux Kernel: 3.8.0 and 3.2.0
  • CPU: icore5 2400
  • GPU: NVIDIA GTX 680 (hard-moded to GRID K2)
  • NVIDIA Drvier: 331.20
Notice: this machine is a virtual machine set up on Xen 4.3.1. My graphic card is usable using VGA Passthrough feature from Xen.

Here are the games I tested last week

  • Enslaved: Odyssey to the West (Wine 1.7.6)
    • Version: nosteam
    • [+]No patch required!
    • [+]The game works great.
    • [-]The max resolution is set to 1920x1200 by default. However it is doable to have a higher resolution but 1920x1200 is enough to play.
    • [+] Playing this game using only your keyboard could be a real nightmare for some steps. Workaround: ThrustMaster gamepad works for me -- this gamepad is not usable to fire robots but the other buttons work great
    • [+]I was able to finish this game.
  • Alien Rage Unlimited (Wine 1.7.7)
    • Version: no steam
    • [+]Patch: no
    • [+]I played only 'SinglePlayer' mode -- I was able to finish this game -- . I think 'MultiPlayer' mode should be playable if game is bought though Steam. A really cool FPS ( old-school )
    • [+]High Settings works great
  • Orion: Dino Horde (Wine 1.7.8)
    • Version: 4.1 (Steam)
    • Patch: No
    • [+] 'MultiPlayer' mode -- online -- works great.
    • [-] There are black textures from time to time but it does'nt prevent you from playing!
if you aim at finding a cool game to play then -- honestly -- it is worth playing these games listed above
